My baby girl is gone...

Took my baby girl Jessica to be put to sleep last night. She was 19yrs and 3days, but couldn't bear to see her suffering any more. Not pain as such, but she had dementia (aimless wandering, wailing at the chair, incontinent), had become so thin and probably had kidney disease. I'm a vet, so I'm used to helping other people make those sorts of decisions, but it was the hardest thing I'll ever do. I took her to a vet friend, and stayed with her til the end - it was very peaceful and she (quite uncharacteristically) didn't fight or argue, so maybe she was ready??

This is her just before we went - my cat with the beautiful eyes.

Just don't know what to do with myself now - haven't slept for 3 nights and feel so guilty (normal I know but can't help it). Postman overwhelmed me this morning with a whole armful of crafty stuff that all seemed to arrive at once, but I'm just not sure I have the energy or motivation to do anything, so I may not be posting anything for a while.

So sorry Esme, have gone through it a few times with dogs. I have cried for two weeks.

I have been wanting and trying to comment for so long but there was something wrong with blogger which they have thankfully fixed now.

So sorry for the loss of your little furbaby Esme. It must be totally gut wrenching hun. It must be harder for you as well being a vet knowing exactly what is happening. What a fantastic age she was & i bet she loved her life with you. This does not make it any easier so sending you hugs. Best wishes, your newby follower Clare xxx

Oh Esme , how sad!

I don't think it matters whether you're a vet or not when its a part of your family. It sounds daft but my dog Willy is just as much my baby as my 3 children!!!

I have been Nursing for 20yrs and still shead a tear when I "lose" a patient, I think I will give up nursing when I don't!

Good luck in the candy draw.
